On Thursday, November 15, 2001, Burke County Middle School
kicked off a can food drive for Golden Harvest Food Bank. The
purpose of this fundraiser was to collect can goods for people who are
less fortunate than us. Doing this can drive gave many people food
to eat. But this wasn't only to feed others. We also had a
contest to see which class could collect the most can goods.
At the end of the fundraiser, the school had collected over 2000 can
goods.
In sixth grade, Mrs. J. Powell's class won with 183 cans. Mrs.
McDowell came in second place with 129 can goods. The sixth grade
collected 741 cans in all.
On the seventh grade hall, S. Page's class won with 131 cans.
Altogether, the seventh graders collected 582 cans.
On the eighth grade hall, the winner was Mr. Wright's class with 218
cans. All together, the eighth graders collected 695 cans.
The clubs at BCMS had a competition of their own. Here is what
they did: Scavenger
Hunt.
To sum this up, it is not all about winning. It's about giving
people food so they can have a better Thanksgiving.
